A Mother's Journey To Body Acceptance

Mystery Boudoir Photography Mom Strechmarks

Our Children are our teachers

My son one day looked at my belly & said, “mommy! you’re cracking!” -with genuine concern on his face.
I looked down at my mushy, soft, waterbed belly & laughed at the innocence of what he was saying. I explained to him what stretch marks are and how I got mine over time.
Thinking back on his statement, he wasn’t wrong. it made me reflect to a time when I was over 200 pounds, feeling like I could never be anything else, anything more than “the chubby friend”.
(To anybody reading this who’s feeling that way? just a reminder: YOU ARE SO MUCH MORE).

I tied A LOT of my self worth to what my body looked like.

Years later - having been a mother, hairdresser, an artist, a model, a friend, a labourer, etc,
I realize there’s so much more. We are so much more than our bodies.
It’s funny how much we are like rocks, we crack, get broken down, some rough edges get smoothed out by the flow of life to become the people we’re meant to be.
it’s like a constant battle of reflect-experience-reflect for the purpose of growing & becoming a stronger version of yourself. (a shoutout to the people who have taught me how to do this).🙏🏻💕

Me being a mother really showed me a side of myself I didn’t know existed. Those days where I didn’t have time for hair or makeup to hide my insecurities, I had to (and still am) slowly let go of them. Like a young child, I slowly began to care less about what people thought of me. and to just have fun. To experience life IN THE MOMENT.
I am so thankful for my son for being my compass, pointing me in the direction where I need to be & for showing me what really matters in life.

Shoutout to the women. who are learning & growing just like me.
A huge shoutout to the moms with the bods. I mean EVERY.SINGLE.MOTHER.OUT.THERE.
